Announcement: Miranda 0.5 Testing Focuses.

June 27, 2006 by koobs

Well well well, it looks like rainwater beat me to the punch :)

Yes, Miranda 0.5 “is” coming soon. The Miranda IM 0.5 branch has been in complete feature-freeze for some time now, with our developers and testers putting in countless hours of time and effort into bringing the next release to fruition.

While everyone is always looking to minimise the number of bugs in any software project, it has now come time to pool the resources and talent of our very loyal and very much appreciated users.

We now look to you, our users, to focus your efforts on the following official test focuses:

Test Focus #1June 27th – July 11thCrashes Memory Leaks – Focus Period : 2 weeks
Test Focus #2July 11th – July 25thMantis Bugs Squashing – Focus Period: 2 weeks
—————————————————————————————————————–

Test Focus #1June 27th – July 11thCrashes Memory Leaks – Focus Period : 2 weeks

– Focuses on identifying, logging, and reporting as many crashes or memory leaks as you can find.

I have created a special page at our bugs site, where you can upload your DrWatson, Crashreport, or other crashdump logs. The uploads are limited to compressed archive formats (listed on the page) and to a maximum of 1Mb. If you have multiple files for a single crash, archive them up and upload them in a single file. The more our developers get, the better.

Test Focus #2July 11th – July 25thMantis Bugs Squashing – Focus Period: 2 weeks

– Focuses on closing, resolving or updating as many of our 925 Mantis bug tracker items as possible.

Alot of these items either relate to older Miranda versions, have been resolved, but never updated, or are awaiting feedback from their original reporters.

If you have ever registered and submitted a bug report, please do everyone a favour, login and check all of your bug reports. If it’s awaiting feedback, provide it. If it has been resolved, then add a note mentioning this.

Further, if you can, check out others bug reports, test them if you can, and provide feedback, whether its a “works for me (WFM)”, “Confirmed”, or anything else. It will be much appreciated.

Rest assured, these test focuses are hopefully the first in many, and there is alot of work being done in the background to bring Miranda forward in many ways. If you have any questions or suggestions, I can be found on our offical IRC Channel, #Miranda on irc.freenode.org
